"It's About Power and Control"
Disturbing news coming out of Nebraska where Assemblies of God Pastor Efrain Umaña is standing trial on criminal charges for sex crimes against a young female member of his congregation. Pastor Umaña also stands accused of making unwanted sexual advances towards two adult female congregants.
In the prosecutor's opening arguments, she stated that this case is about power and control:
"(He) used his position and authority as a pastor to abuse members of his church,” the prosecutor said. “They trusted Mr. Umaña. He was their pastor, and he violated their trust.”
It is always grievous to us at The Hope of Survivors, as we hear about the suffering of others under this type of abuse. We understand the difficult road ahead; how these deep wounds affect the lives of these women. Our prayer is for comfort and healing for all.
